Just How Much Should We Worry About The Future, Anyway? | Sritan Chiluka | TEDxYouth@AllianceAcademy

The average mammalian species lives for 1 million years. Humans have been around for roughly 200,000 years. Proportionally, considering an average human's lifespan, humanity is only 13 years old. And humans are not your average species; we likely have the potential for much longer lifespans given our intellect and ability to collaborate. Within this timeframe, there's enormous potential—discovering the fundamental laws of physics, achieving a 0% poverty rate, or even finding alien life. However, humanity faces a significant challenge—existential risks that could lead to the complete extinction of our species. Social media and news channels often emphasize doomsday scenarios like World War 3 or catastrophic climate change, painting a grim future. But there is room for optimism. What are the problems we need to address? Can humanity overcome these predicaments? And what can you do to contribute? This talk isn't about pressuring you to single-handedly change the world; it's about offering a fresh perspective on how we can collectively impact the world and the billions of future inhabitants. Should We Revive Dinosaurs? Exploring De-Extinction | Charvi Thanakanti | TEDxYouth@AllianceAcademy

It’s no secret that more and more animals have been going extinct as we humans develop. As a solution to this problem, scientists have mentioned de-extinction for quite a while now. Today, as companies like Colossal have taken on this challenge, we are on the brink of reviving extinct species like the wooly mammoth and passenger pigeon. But before we decide that de-extinction is our saving grace, we have to consider the ethical and ecological implications that it brings. Is de-extinction a way to restore ecosystems and advance scientific knowledge? Or is it a diversion from conservation efforts? The goal of this talk isn't to impose a specific viewpoint on you, but rather to prompt you to reflect on your stance regarding this controversial topic. After all, the future of our planet rests in our hands.
